Washington, DC is home to 26 community gardens, 4 urban farms, 100+ school gardens, and City Council has passed the Urban Farming and Food Security Act that makes it easier for people to grow food on available land within city limits. Despite those numbers, childhood obesity rates are well above the national average and 1 in 8 District residents struggle to afford fresh fruit and vegetables.
